From the 'In case you weren't at Harvard last Saturday' files…
On Saturday, February 21st, Harvard Business School's 'Women's Student Association' hosted "The 24th Annual Dynamic Women in Business Conference" in Cambridge outside of Boston.

The energy and optimism and was palpable. There was definitely a buzz in the air.
Just when you thought you had heard the last best speaker and heard the best advice of your life… along would come another speaker and blow you away.
So taking the advice of speaker and Harvard case-study, Carla Ann Harris who said 'When you learn something - share it!' Here's what we thought were some of the more memorable and sharable moments and advice.

1st Keynote Speaker: Kathy Giusti - Founder of an Executive Chairman Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) and Multiple Myeloma Research Consortium (MMRC) @KathyGiusti
*Note: Kathy and her twin sister built the MMRF and MMRC all while she struggled with the diagnosis and treatment of Myeloma cancer herself.
1. Build the bottom of your resume - Make sure that during your studies and even after you are hired - to seek out and engage in leadership opportunities. Find a group to volunteer with, continue to learn with added training or schools, join clubs within and outside your organization and broaden/diversify your perspective with subjects, clubs and groups outside of your career sphere.
2. Grooming and appearance is important! You have finally landed that job… always show up in a tidy, respectfully dressed fashion.
3. Build your network of professional and personal acquaintances and friends. They will be integral in your career and job-seeking.
*NOTE: This was probably the one main theme that all speakers encouraged.

Case Study featuring Carla Ann Harris. "20+ year Wall Street veteran. Managing Director at Morgan Stanley. Proud gospel singer, public speaker and author of Strategize To Win." @CarlaAnnHarris
1. Her grandmother's advice drove her. She said: "Girl, whatever you are going to be, be good at it. So if you're going to be a garbage man, be the BEST garbage man swinging on the back of that truck."
2. Her parents taught her that "excellence was something to be expected". When Carla learned her school friend got a quarter for her 'A's', she asked her parents where her money was? Her father responded, "You're supposed to get 'A's', why should I give you money for that.
3. Don't "EXPECT" people to know who you are. 'Perception is a co-pilot to Reality'.
4. If there is something that you don't like at work or you are not comfortable with… ASK. If there is something you don't know… ASK.
5. Recruit a sponsor at work, within your organization - to be your cheerleader when you aren't in the room or when the higher-ups are looking to promote.
6. When you learn… pass it on! Mentor and teach.
STAY TUNED FOR PART 2!
