Jeanette Marie Hummel of 'Fit Girl Travels'.
"Healthy living doesn’t have to be boring or stressful... Healthy living can be FUN – shopping at a farmer’s market in Thailand, yoga on the beaches of Aruba, or swimming in the surf of Maui. Healthy living can be found in all corners of the world – even in your own backyard."
It was that quote - that philosophy - that peaked our interest when we first noticed a 'Like' on our Instagram page (GetTheAList) from one of the greatest blog names ever: 'Fit Girl Travels'. We knew we had to know more...
"Wellness Travel" is fast becoming one of the world's leading industries. It's that concept that infuses Jeanette in not only her excursions but her everyday life as well. Since we can't always be on our way to Tahiti, Jeanette's blog also features healthy eating tips and the latest trends in fitness.
Her passion for exploration has also become a family affair with her new husband and their combined blog: JourneyTheEarth.com
So once we'd discovered this intrepid trekker and her trip-fit-tips, we had to ask: "Jeanette Hummel, you already devote your life to two of our favorite 'musts' - Fitness and Travel...

Favorite Beauty Product?
LaLicious Coconut Cream Sugar Souffle Scrub. I discovered this amazing concoction at South Coast Winery Resort & Spa and I've been hooked on it since! It smells like a tropical beach and leaves my skin feeling smooth and moisturized - it makes me feel like I'm taking a shower in Fiji every morning!
Favorite Hair Product?
Affinage Kitoko Oil Treatment – adding a few drops to my hair after I shower takes my hair from frizzy mess to smooth and silky. It’s magic! I also highly recommend The Wet Brush – it’s inexpensive and does an amazing job detangling wet hair.
Favorite Cosmetics?
I typically don’t wear a lot of makeup, except for special events. For everyday, I try to go for a natural, sun-kissed look. One of my favorite go-to items is the Urban Decay Naked 3 eyeshadow palette – it’s a great combo of beachy pinks and golds.
Do you have a signature fragrance or ones that you wear often?
My favorite fragrance is one by Sea Jewels Cancun that I purchased from the spa at El Dorado Seaside Suites on my honeymoon in Riviera Maya, Mexico. I love everything beach related, and this beautiful starfish-shaped perfume bottle captured my attention immediately. The scent reminds me of summer nights spent gazing at the stars and palm trees swaying in warm, ocean breezes.
Last Fashion item you bought?
The last fashion item I bought was a shirt from StitchFix. If you haven’t tried StitchFix yet, you should – it’s a great online personal styling service! It always feels like Christmas morning when I see a StitchFix box on my doorstep – I can’t wait to open it and see what fashion surprises my stylist has picked out for me!
Last Beauty (Skincare) Product you bought?
Neutrogena Naturals Fresh Cleansing + Makeup Remover Facewash – it makes my skin feel so refreshed and I love that it contains lots of natural ingredients, like Peruvian Tara Seed.
What is one item that you use EVERY DAY?
My Elliott Lucca Bali Woven Square Tote in black – I received this bag as a Christmas gift and it goes with me everywhere!

Favorite item in your closet
My wedding dress. I love everything about it. It was the first “wedding” dress I tried on and I knew it was “the one.” It’s my favorite color (aquamarine) and I love that it’s so uniquely me.
The A-List says: And she may just have the best Engagement Photo EVER.
Favorite Shopping Website(s)?
Oh, I have so many! Shopstyle.com is a great go to if you’re searching for something specific. I also love Amazon (Amazon Prime shipping has saved me when I’ve needed to order last minute!). StitchFix is a fun option if you don’t have a lot of time to shop and want a few fashion surprises delivered right to your doorstep! And, I also really enjoy shopping at Laura’s House, a high-end resale shop in my neighborhood that donates all proceeds to help women who are victims of domestic violence – I love knowing that I am supporting a good cause.
What do you always pack?
I’m usually headed to a tropical destination, so I usually pack a good mix of swimsuits, maxi dresses, and comfy cover-ups. As for food, you can sign up for my Slim & Sexy Grocery List to check out some of my favorite items I bring with me when I travel!
Favorite App?
Along with the Blogilates workout app, I’ve been loving the Sleep Pillow app – I’ve been having a hard time sleeping lately and this app has relaxing rain (and other) sounds that could lull me to sleep anywhere!
Favorite Junk Food?
I try to stay away from junk food, but I do indulge in a YOLO meal (You Only Live Once) meal each week! And for that, my choice at the moment would be a burger and fries from In-N-Out – maybe with a milkshake on the side!
Favorite Restaurant?
Oceana in St. Thomas. My husband and I went there for Thanksgiving a couple years ago and it was hands-down one of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had. It’s an open-air restaurant on the beautiful island, St. Thomas – the ambiance, service and food were all incredible.
Any “Home” or Décor tips or tricks?
I recently chatted with Blanche Garcia from the Travel Channel's 'Hotel Impossible' and she shared some really great tips to make your home feel like a luxury resort. The tip that will make the biggest difference is to de-clutter! Clean up your living room / bedroom each night before you go to sleep and you’ll wake up to a clean home – it makes such an impact on the way you start your day.

Secret Obsession?
Coffee. And dark chocolate. Can’t live without either!
I spend too much money on:
Organic food and drinks like kombucha and coconut water (Harmless Harvest is my favorite! – I even give it to my Chihuahua (per a pet nutritionist’s recommendation). Although healthy food can be expensive, I feel it’s worth it. It’s an investment in my health and living a happy, healthy life is something that’s invaluable to me.
Best Advice or something you’ve learned in your career?
“What you give away for free, you will never get paid for later.” My mentor Rebekah Borucki of BexLife.com gave away this great piece of advice in her Social Academy program. It might sound mercenary, but it’s not meant to. Like many other people, I’m a “yes” person and I tend to take on too many things. It’s so important to believe in your own worth – whether it be in your career, relationships or life in general.
What else would you like to do or accomplish?
I love travel and connecting with people from around the world – it’s one of the reasons I decided to become a blogger. If I can make a difference in someone’s life with something I’ve written, my job is a success. Ultimately, I’d love to be a full-time travel blogger alongside my husband, Todd, who manages all the photography for our blog at www.journeytheearth.com.
